Kindle Classic App Reviews

Not up to snuff; Minimal functionality

In my opinion, the Mac iOS implementation is shoddy - like they give it a low priority. It allows you to read your books and keep them synched, but not much else. The organization philosophy is frustrating. I cannot look up books by purchase date, or easily see what I’ve been reading/recently viewing on my iPad or phone. The mobile version is much better than this. Why won’t Amazon take the time to bring this app up to the professional standard of their mobile version? I’ve come to expect more from the app world than Amazon is delivering here.

dark?

Most of the options on how to view are greyed out. It looks dark and I cannot change it. My version looks nothing like it does in the screenshots above. This is terribly disappointing. I searched online and tried to get help on this issue, and even when I reached out to get help via amazon, i was told to change the color mode. That would be great, however, all the options are greyed out so I CAN’T change the color mode. I can’t change anything and there is no way for me to comfortably read anything on my mac, which I use a lot for school. This is a disapointment. I wish this could be addressed!!

Needs VoiceOver!

At the moment, the Amazon Kindle For Mac app is woefully inaccessible to disabled Mac users. There is no automated way to launch & control voiceover reading. The only way is to manually highlight the text and have the mac read using its narration software. Note that automated narration IS AVAILABLE FOR THE PC. [eye roll] Amazon, please update your Mac software to make it more accessible to everyone.

Freezes on certain pages

I have found this issue on both the Kindle application on the Surface Pro and on my Mac. I downloaded a textbook and the application freezes on certain pages of the book. Right now the application is stuck on Pg. 56, and if I try to go to a page beforte or after that, it does not do so. The kindle window freezes itself as well, I cannot drag the window to another place on my screen and anything that I try to click within the application, it takes it about 2 minutes to respond. Ocassionally the page changes, but it is only a matter of time until you get to the next "frozen page” or it goes back to page 56. I AM TRYING TO READ MY TEXTBOOK FOR SCHOOL!!!!!!!!! FIX THIS NOW! IT IS COMPLETELY URGENT!!!!!!

Works as expected

I don’t really understand the harsh reviews…perhaps it works differently computer-to-computer, but I’ve found that the Kindle app is fine for everything I need. I rented a textbook through Amazon and I can read, highlight, bookmark, etc without any problems…I’ve also used it for other books and never have any problems. I haven’t had any issues with it. Which is good, because textbooks are expensive to buy.

I can’t even log in my account

I can’t log in even though I enter the correct email address and password. Im really upset because I need to read the kindle version book that I bought from Amazon but now I cant. :(

Really Stressed Me Out!

I had been using this app for a really long time and had practically no complaints. But then this new software update came in and it wouldn’t let me open the Kindle app at all because of one book for some reason. I’m a college kid with a rental textbook on it and it wouldn’t let me access it, so this gave me a heart attack. So now I just downloaded the Kindle app for mac straight from the Amazon website so hopefully i won’t run into problems. I would just download it straight from Amazon or use the cloud reader and save yourself the stress.

Is anyone out there in Amazonland listening to users?!?!

I just downloaded the Kindle App for my Macbook. Not to be dramatic, but this app is pure horror. Youre missing the most basic of basic functions. We cant change the font style. We cant sync collections with our mobile Kindle app. I looked online to what others are saying. YOUR USERS have been complaining about the utter lack of basic features for YEARS. Is anyone out there listening? Do you care? Is this or any useful feedback youre receiving being used or listenend to? I just bought several books from your Kindle service. Once Im done with those Im done with you. Step it up where it counts and listen to your users. If you cant roll out a decent app, please spare us and dont roll it out at all.

Not reliable

I just recently downloaded an etextbook. The first time I tried to open up my new purchase, the application said I had to remove my book and download it again. Once I finally solved that problem, I was hoping to utilize the flashcard utility. However, everytime I try to export terms to flashcard, the application closes. Please fix this issue.

Useless with Amazon Prime Book Lending Feature

The pictures of the app here are obviously not of the current version which is missing features it previously had such as the button to “Shop in Kindle Store.” There is no such button. There is no way to access content for purchasing, reading samples or especially the lending feature of an Amazon Prime subscription which it turns out simply isn’t supported by this app at all. I contacted their telephone support about this thinking perhaps I was missing something here and discovered the support representative was clueless also. I had to step them through attempting to find any book to borrow with the monthy Prime lending feature and read it on this app to demonstrate it is impossible. Later on further investigation I learned on some support page that basically just Amazon Kindle devices work for this feature of Prime anyway. So this issue along with no Apple TV support, etc. renders Prime pretty useless for those preferring the Apple ecosystem of hardware. Just a heads up primarily about this app but also about the service itself and even trying access books to read on this app. You have to go shopping on the web site, tell it to download to your account and then you can see it in the app. This is not exactly an elegant or friendly user experience and therefore I give this app the one star it currently deserves. I hope they improve it. I did bother to offer suggestions to that end to them. I’ll stick to iBooks. Per usual, while it might cost more Apple stuff just works.

back to the drawing board you go.

I have tried multiple times with syncing to my phone with books. that works to a small degree. I CAN NOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME GET MY DOCUMENTS FROM MY KINDLE ON THE IPHONE TO LINK WITH THE KINDLE FOR MAC. you are MISSING the basic features for the mac app. it looks like you threw this app together just to get something out there. this needs to go back to the drawing board and start over. IT NEEDS TO HAVE ALL THE FUNCTIONS AND FEATURES THE KINDLE HAS FOR THE OTHER PLATFORMS. i get a lot of arc (advance reader copy) books sent to me and can only open them through the documents feature from my iphone. sometimes the print is too small to see and want to read it on my macbook air but alas i can not because you dont even have this basic feature/function. PLEASE FIX THIS. I have owned a kindle since the second ever kindle came out and Im truly disappointed with the lack of commitment you have given the kindle mac app.

Can’t be more clumsy

It’s hard to imagine a how such a clumsy app work on my new Mac Pro! Every operation is incredibly and amazingly slow.

Night Mode, Line Spacing, and Font Style/Type

The App is “ok", but the following options would make it better, much better: - Night Mode that cuts out blue light, like Google Play Books. - The ability to change Line Spacing, just like Kindle on other devices. - The ability to change Font Style/Type, just like Kindle on other devices.

Please, make it work

Kindle paperwhite is amazing. Kindle for iPhone works fine. Kindel for Mac? Amazon, Please, make it work. I really like to use your Kindle in my Mac!

Unusable after latest update.

I tried to read a new book but the app wouldnt sync. It ends up that Amazon updated the app, and all old versions stopped working. Of course I cant update because the latest OSX the kindle reading app now supports is 10.8. All polycarbonate macs are now unable to use the Kindle app. If they had left the old version working, then this wouldnt be an issue. Way to alienate your users, Amazon.

Easy to use, synchs great, looks good

Since my 1 star review I have setup calibre for managing my library of ebooks and it is an excellent ebook library management software. So now that I have my organization problem resolved, I will update my review. For reading ebooks bought from Amazon.com this app works smoothly and flawlessly. The synch between all sorts of technology works smoothly and immediately. One Star Review: If you have one book and want to open it and read it page by page, then this app is fine. But if you have a lot of books, switch between books, want to put them in groupings (Collections) or need to do research, then this app is crap. I put several hundred books into Collections. The app then closed itself and lost all of my work. Nice waste of my time.

Terrible, doesn’t even give me the option to go online

The app doesn’t give me the option to go online like it shows on the top right of the screen. No options of help issues whatsoever. Terrible app!

It’s okay. It syncs books but not documents (books you add from other sources are “documents".

If I’m reading a book from Amazon with this app, it works perfectly and keeps me on the same page when I next open my Kindle or Kindle app. My reading experience is great. Deleting couldn’t be more difficult (it’s not a hassle to delete one, but when you’re cleaning up). Here’s the problems: My iOS Kindle apps (iPad and iPhone) sync everything between them: open it up on the Kindle or iPad app or iPhone app and they’re all on the same page; this works for books from Kindle AND Documents (books from other sources ARE CONSIDERED DOCUMENTS) buy not on the Mac. The Mac version won’t sync documents so it’s not as useful to me, I buy my books from various locations (these get labeled as documents). This makes no sense to me: The Amazon Fire is a competitor to the iPad and the app supports all functionality (pretty much giving no reason to get a Fire, but most people still buy from Amazon with the app) but the Mac (which Amazon doesn’t make a competing product) doesn’t have enough functionality, don’t they want me to have the word “Kindle" in my head (and not iBooks?). If you want to delete more than one book at a time, good luck, they make it as painfull as possible. I know my complaints are very technical, but I hope I explained why I rated it low. There are a lot more low reviews here that I can’t fingure out what they mean...

Serisouly?

Amazon….. guys….. this app for the mac has been bad for a while now. I am extremely shocked at the poor quality. The app will either freeze to come to a crawl which is very anyoying when you need to change the page, or even scroll withen the same page. If someone is wanting to a read a book without interuptions this app is not for you.

Keep crashing all the time!!!

I’d like to give a negative rating if possible. I tried a couple of times and failed to start the app all the time. It’s always crashing again and again. Totally disappointing!!!
