This is a great app but retina support needs to be added.

What a piece of crap, beyond slow and terrible response to keys and trackpad!
The app looks bad on retina display
Please add retina support. The text looks terrible on my MacBook Pro retina display!
Keep it up. It took way too long for rMBP to get its support.
This is a much improved app. Things I like: how the highlighter work on this versus iBooks, how most popoular highlighted passages can be shared, how it integrates so well with Audible. Things I don’t like: payment system remains a pain in the neck (still no PayPal support), syncing is sometimes slower than I’d like, no support for the page scroll feature as per iBooks, and no cut and paste function for quick and easy quotations of interesting passages.
I primarily use my ebooks as an alternative to carrying a textbook. To this end, the OS X version is lacking in features that would make it better as a study tool: 1. Lacks multi-color highlighting (underlining) which is available in the ios version and other e-readers 2. lacks the ability to edit bookmarks (both location and text)
The inability to copy and paste even small sections of text makes this application utterly useless for researchers, consultants, academics and the like who need to quote as a matter of course. The inability to have more than one book open at a time also a deal breaker. Odd thing this is: they’ve made these upgrades to the mobile version, but not the workstation version. An excellent way to lose customers.
Very disappointed . Can’t even open a book. You’d think Amazon could do a better job.
Just installed this on my new MBP. I’ve had my Kindle account for years and it works on every other device. Crashes while trying to login and sync my books.
So far, I haven’t found a way how I can sync collections between my MBP and my iPad. Would be great if this was added.
I am unable to get my books when I download this app on my Macbook Air with Yosemite. I have no trouble with my old computer or my iPad. I love this app when it works. I’m sure it is just a glitch with Yosemite and will keep waiting for an update.
If all you need is to read a bunch of books and some highliting, this app is great! The amazon bookstore is very expansive and I love that I can change how many lines appear on the page. This being said, special formating is put to waste because of that feature and the app is a little buggy at times- eg. shifting page layout sometimes when you flip forward a few pages then back. Not being able to copy text is ludacris, I can’t use this app for reading books needed for research.
I agree with WasNeues?, the inability to copy text makes this app useless. Not just for research, etc. but it prevents basic OS X features - text to speech. I enjoy reading, then listening while I read along. It helps with my retention and comprehesion. Because of this app I will no longer be purchasing kindle books if there is an alternative iBook.
Previously one of the features I loved about the kindle app on my mac was that i could copy and paste text for papers. It was a great blessing and time saver. Now I can’t, and it is very frustrating. I can understand not wanting people to copy and paste a whole book, but it was a great feature that is missed by those of us who use our kindle books for academic purposes.
1. Scrolling is backwards for some reason 2. No support for gestures like pinch to zoom 3. No copy/paste Honestly the most annoying thing is the backwards scrolling. Even the contents panel has correct scrolling, but not the book itself.
I used this app to read both novels, and textbooks. With novels it is infuriating to have to adjust the zoom level depending on what size font the pages are. For textbooks it is absolutely infuriating and frustrating. None of the typical Apple commands work, nor do the motions on the trackpad work. What you have is a serious lack of intuitiveness that hampers the usability of this app. And since they wont give you a PDF version of the damned book you just bought you cant use any other program to read. SO FRICKEN USELESS.
Does the basics well enough, but those 2 are big problems for me. The app over-rides traditional OSX right-click functions, and the trade-off (pop-up dictionary etc.) is hardly worth it.
This app needs a serious refresh. I’d would gladly pay for a better app. If that cannot be done at least let users use the books in other supported apps. Perhaps an API to securely access the users book collection/account while protecting the copyright. The user experience is horrible. I find the font choices and layout hard on my eyes. The UI is distracting and cannot be hidden. It can only highlight in one colour. Common keyboard shortcuts are not respected (CMD + Z or Ctrl + Z for example). The search is slow and has very few options. The cloud reader looks far better, is more minimalistic, has better font choices, but still lacks some markup options. I’ve waited years for an update to this and nothing has been done. I’ve been reading forums for years hoping there was some way to legally get my books into a useable readable app but no such luck. I know Amazon can do better. The photos/previews they show above look nothing like the real app when downloaded. Even in full screen there are tons of UI elements intruding the reading view.
Ive tried loading and reloading this app. It constantly crashes. Totally disappointning = needs a lot of work it seems
