Kindle Classic App Reviews

181 Customer Reviews:

There seems to be a page sync problem on this app when reading on multiple devices. Also, hopefully Amazon will add X-Ray and Audible narration features that are in the iOS versions. It’s been more than one year since the last update Amazon, so get busy!

Using a brand new Macbook 12inch laptop I installed the Kindle app. I like the ability to rent text books for my masters degree and have rented everything from Amazon (you’re welcome Amazon) What I don’t like is when scrolling forward on my brand new macbook trackpad in the Kindle app, my Amazon text book will randomly decide to scroll backwards 3-5 pages for no rhyme or reason. This is very disruptive and makes me question renting text books from Amazon. When I copy and paste text notes from the Kindle app into another program and navigate back to the Kindle app, it somehow assumes this motion is connected to wanting to scroll forward and it jumps about 50-100 pages forward. This isn’t convincing me that I should use this app or rent textbooks from Amazon. (There’s your business impact - please take note Amazon)

Apple store version of the app is outdated

Just an FYI that the version here is very outdated. Go to Amazon’s site to get the current version.

Trying to download books - cannot believe how long it takes - I have to wait & wait; can’t walk away to do anything else; the minute I try that; the iPad or iPhone ‘goes to sleep’ & I have to start over. The icon just spins & spins & spins & spins! I spoke w/an Apple tech. They say the problem is w/the App! So, now what? It is making me crazy!!!!!! Now, I cannot even submit this unless I create a nickname - everything taken…………………..

Mac Version does not allow viewing of my personal documents. All version of your app should work the same; iPad, iPhone, and Mac. Also, pages do not always sync across devices.

I found the application to be very flaky and not user freindly. I used it for a text book and often copied problem questions at the end of the chapter to a word doc. After a copy it would jump to random places in the book. Scroll had a similar effect, when scrolling down, upon reaching the end of the page it would often jump back a page rather than forward. If I could have used adobe reader or even preivew on Mac it would have been a huge improvement over the Kindle reader.

This app had a lot of promise, but what good is anything that you can’t rely upon? Some books work, some don’t. My most recent purchase will open on my iDevices, but crashes my Kindle for Mac app every time I try to open it. WT...?? This app should be bullet-proof in order to fulfill its promise as a hard-copy replacement–it is clearly not (see all the other 1* reviews). As a result, it’s a complete waist of time and money. Amazon, please hire someone that knows how to provide a product that actually creates value!! DOH!!! It may look pretty, but it doesn’t work–shame on you Amazon!

Not even serif/sans-serif? A reading “program" on the pioneering “desktop publishing” platform really should have a few font choices. I’m not asking for major surgery; just a few choices like Helvetica, Futura, Lucida, Caslon, Georgia… anything but just… TIMES !!! Hell, even Arial or Verdana would be welcome (hint: SOMETHING WITHOUT SERIFS). Four stars if you fix. One star is “hate it” and hate it I do right now. Update 05/11/15: Still no support for fonts. Update 04/30/16: STILL no font choices. STILL a piece of garbage written by garbagemen. Can’t even get it to stay on the same page. Keeps jumping all around if I don’t keep my hand off the Apple mouse. What kind of BS is that? Prison terms for the coders is the only reasonable outcome. Many have been jailed for lesser crimes.

The App Store version is out of date, download the version on Amazons website instead

This version is highly out of date. Instead, you should download the one directly from Amazons website (click the "Kindle Support" button above).

Usually, users can add personal documents to the connected Kindle device or app, by sending them to a special email address. They can also download these personal documents from the Kindle cloud to particular Kindle apps. However, this useful feature is not available in: Kindle Cloud Reader Kindle for PC Kindle for Mac In other words, when you open Cloud tab in the Kindle Cloud Reader, you’ll only see the books purchased from the Kindle Store. It took me going to a third party site to figure out why this wasn’t working. The policy wouldn’t have made me that mad if they’d just been up front about it.

I don’t know what Amazon is doing, but the app has become very painful for me to use. It is slow and buggy. It delays before turning the page and some times skips forward too far. It goes crazy sometimes when I try to change the window size. I’ve been using it because it was available on more platforms. Now that iBooks is available on the Mac, I might need to switch.

As a writer and avid reader, I’m pretty picky about reading apps and have the Kindle app on my phone, iPad, and computer. It’s one of the simplest and highest quality apps I own (and I own a bunch!). I love being able to read from any one of the three devices and then pick up later on another device exactly where I left off earlier. I’ve used the Kindle app for years and have never had a problem with it, and can’t imagine how anyone else can’t figure out how to use it correctly. If you don’t have it, you should get it. One of my very favorite apps of all time!

Needs support for all Amazon Kindle formats

It doesn’t support all Amazon Kindle formats, like Comics.

I downloaded the Kindle app for Mac to use an etextbook that I rented, and it seems to be working fine for me! I use my Kindle Paperwhite for all my other books (not textbooks) and prefer it, but for a Textbook, this is about my only option and it does the job.

This works pretty well for the Macbook Pro. My only critique on this is that it has no speech option. Personally, i am a more audio learner and like to hear the words as i read. If only this had the text-to-speech option, i would rate it 5 stars. Please update this to have the option!

Great App

Its the normal Kindel App which works perfectly. Not sure why the low ratings, maybe google had lots of employees rate it poorly
