kindle on mac not working

says unable to connect
please check your network settings and proxy config

my network is fine and I dont use a proxy
i can no longer read the books and am told I must re-download them

i tried deleting app and re-installing
and i tried pressing Register button but same message above
says I am not registered, which isn’t true.
